JAN. 19, 2012 - Continuing yo-yo weather from very warm (8C.
yesterday) to very cold (-8C. today) and very windy for the past
several days, thus quite a wind-chill today.

Glenys Gibson tells me that a red-bellied woodpecker was seen on her
property in Canning last week, after having seen one back in November
and then no sightings until recently. She is still regularly seeing
multiple cardinals there too, like me in Wolfville.

In late afternoon I tried again at Noggins Farm Market, at Greenwich,
for the dickcissel, and for the first time I was there at a good
time, about 4:30 p.m., when the house sparrows that were nearby were
feeding a lot at and below the feeders on the big spruce tree
adjacent to the house (I found viewing from my car at the corner of
the house to be excellent). However, the dickcissel was not seen.
George Forsyth and Debbie Bishop were both there; Debbie thinks that
perhaps half of the house sparrows have gone elsewhere, and she has
not seen the dickcissel for several days.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.
