Well today was a successful day. The 4 Big Year Canada birders and I picked=
a number of today's targets.=0A=0AStarted the day at Tufts cove and found =
a Great Cormorant right away. Next off to Red Bridge Pond and the Common Ga=
linule posed for pictures. From there to Sullivan's pond for the Eurasian W=
idgeons (and The hybrid), American Coot good winter bird, Yellow Breasted C=
hat, Gadwall (nice to see but not a big target for Prairie based birders) T=
he purple finches were also nice (thanks Marty). Quick stop at Alderney Lan=
ding for some Guillemots. Next we crossed over to Halifax for the Dickcisse=
l and the Orioles. Great views of both. Thank you Susann for the use of you=
r yard. This all before 1030 in the morning.=0A=0AAs the original plan was =
to go to Windsor in the afternoon for the PFGO we thought to check =A0Black=
Rock Beach for Purple Sandpipers but no luck. As we needed to go back to t=
he hotel in Dartmouth before Windsor we swung up to MacCormicks beach but t=
he tide was out. Did get the Iceland Gull and some long tailed ducks though=
. At this point a couple of phone calls determined the PFGO was not seen th=
is morning but the Yellow Throated warbler was a the yard at that time. We =
switched back to plan B and drove to Terence Bay. John and Freeman were gre=
at hosts but the bird did not return for our visit. With Blake we checked o=
n another spot for Purple Sandpipers but still no luck.=0A=0ATotal for the =
day was 38 species when the focus was more on specific birds rather than qu=
antity.=0A=0AThe Alberta foursome are still birding NS for the next two day=
s before continuing to St Johns. Targets are:=0APurple Sandpiper,=0ABlack H=
eaded Gulls=0ALesser Black Backed Gulls=0ADovkie and other alcids=0AOther g=
ull rarities=0A=0AThanks guys for letting me join you for the day and show =
you around.=0A=0ARob Woods=0AGeorgefield Rd
