The weather was exquisite, and=20 the birding was fun. Water birds and littoral=20 birds dominated our list, which finished at about=20 55 species for the day (0700 to 1630). Forest=20 birds were very scarce, and we didn't get our=20 first chickadee until after 1600, in Halifax's=20 Public Gardens. Here are our highlights: Hartlen Point 5 Green-winged Teal (Maintenance Building Pond) 1 Pied-billed Grebe (Maintenance Building Pond) 1 Blue Grosbeak (Back Cove) Bisset Lake 10 Lesser Scaup 1 American Coot (we were at the lake early, so=20 perhaps the other 5 (Paul saw 6 the same day) were still asleep in the= reeds). Rainbow Haven (Skeet Club) 1 American Tree Sparrow West Lawrencetown Marsh 88 American Wigeon (no Eurasian Wigeon) 22 Hooded Merganser 6 Bonaparte=92s Gull Conrad=92s Beach 22 Long-tailed Duck 6 Bufflehead 4 Greater Yellowlegs 8 Sanderling Lawrencetown River 4 Greater Yellowlegs 10 Sanderling 2 Snow Bunting Three Fathom Harbour 35 Red-breasted Merganser (the mergansers formed=20 a splashing conga line, driving schools of fish=20 into a small area where they could be more easily=20 eaten.
