Grand Pre are rapidly being lost to erosion of the seaward side (rate is being measured by CWS as they do their surveys of colonial birds every other May?), long ago the crows abandoned their long-time roost on Boot and many of them moved to downtown Kentville and the area around Kentville Hospital (Valley Regional). The town had a difficult job of dealing with them, and the numbers quoted were often "40,000", which happens to be the maximum that Randy Milton counted on Boot Island using good survey techniques (which, as far as I know, were never used for the Kentville crows). Someone in Truro? had invented and marketed the Phoenix Wailer, which was designed to play recorded calls of whatever to scare away pest wildlife, such as various birds etc. from grapes in vineyards now. The only trick was that the Wailer would result in the crows changing their roost by a few or several blocks, so that the Wailer would have to follow them around to continue to be effective. I well recall the massive amounts of guano from the pre- roosting and roosting crows in downtown Kentville near the movie theatre in those years. After Kentville, I recall the crows seemed to use Coldbrook for several years, but I think most recently many of them have been in Berwick (and Aylesford too?). Who can add to or correct what I have written?
