While travelling on Route 329 today, just south of the southern exit for Mill Cove Shore Rd, across form mid 1600 civic numbers, there was an adult Pacific Loon in the company of at least nine Common Loons. This bird was about two-thirds the length of the Common Loons, had a much-narrower, shorter beak, a grayer head and nape, and still had considerable white on the cranial aspect of its back. The bird was last seen swimming Northwest. Unfortunately the camera battery died minutes before as we had a productive day taking pictures of Sanderlings, Horned Grebes, Blue Jays, and Common Mergansers.
Happy Birding,
Shawn
