As reported to NatureNS by Hans Toom, the Five Bridge Lakes region, a
8268 hectare piece of undeveloped Provincial land west of the city of
Halifax, Nova Scotia, has received formal designation as a Provincial
Wilderness Area <http://tinyurl.com/68hkdey>.

It is important to note that this wilderness area is continguous on
its eastern border with the Halifax Western Common Wilderness (1600
hectares), Canada's first urban wilderness <http://tinyurl.com/5r3fvn7>.

Together the two Wilderness areas protect much of the western half of
the Chebucto Peninsula, and lie just 30 minutes from the heart of the
largest city in the Atlantic Provinces. And the protected area may
grow in size, if private in-holdings are purchased.

A day for tempered satisfaction.

Best,

Blake
