Dusan, thanks for raising the issue and stimulating the comments,
etc. At least where the turtle is now is an opportunity for some
more public education about alien vs. native turtles and the history
of the issue of sales of baby turtles in department stores as used to
happen, with lots of casualties among the reptiles and perhaps also
the humans. Maybe the wildlife park is already doing educational
outreach on this, and perhaps also the Oak Lawn Zoo in the Aylesford
area, where the baby Blanding's turtles are head-started for a couple
of years before releases back into the wild, where the grown
juveniles have better chances of surviving than do the hatchlings.
Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.
