It is pure exploitation of the publicly-owned marine resource. We have =
little or nothing in the way of protective legislation.=20

The "money" (huge profits) does not stay in NS, and the economic impacts =
on our coastal fishery are being ignored. For NS, there is no net gain, =
and a big risk of losses to lobster stocks, the fishery and their =
marketability. Other shellfish are also affected.

  Unfortunately the industrialization of Nova Scotia's coastline is =
going forward unchecked. Our minister of environment, Sterling =
Belliveau, refers to these types of developments as "minuscule" in terms =
of the total amount of coastline Nova Scotia has. Groups such as yours =
are easily isolated by the government and developers, referring to you =
as Nimby's....and in one piece of namecalling, dismiss your legitimate =
concerns. I have witnessed this same arrogant approach by the current =
government here on Digby Neck and Islands...the latest being the =
approval of a massive fish feed lots on St. Mary's Bay. There is very =
strong scientific evidence as to the harm these feedlots can do to the =
ecosystem...yet the government says the creation of jobs takes priority. =
 What a sad commentary. It's made worse by the fact that the man in =
charge of promoting these harmful open-net fish farms is also the same =
minister in charge of protecting Nova Scotia's environment. I'm pretty =
well convinced that those in power will never get it when it comes to =
the environment. They haven't figured out how to raise taxes or make =
money off a natural environment...so they allow these developments to go =
ahead, because that's where the money is.
  Thus endeth my Sunday Morning rant.
  Good luck in trying to save what's left of your coastline.

    A (very) small group of local citizens have come together to promote =
the=20
    creation of a marine coastal park in order to save the very unique =
Bedford=20
    Basin Reef ("western ledges").

    In this new video (link below) you will learn about a fascinating =
and unique=20
    natural place that is literally on the verge of being buried by =
pyritic=20
    slate.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DGsi7MpQ8A7c

    We held a successful public awareness event on 30 May 2011 at =
DeWolfe Park,=20
    which included free live music, food, a silent auction, door prize =
raffle,=20
    free T-shirts, and free face painting for the kids. (courtesy of =
about a=20
    dozen corporate sponsors!)

    I am just a local family-man.
    It bothers me that the Bedford Basin is being infilled.
    I thought it may also be of interest to all you lovers of Nova =
Scotia's=20
    natural places.

    -feedback welcome
