The only cleaning that needs to be done is to get rid of inactive squirrel nest material, and if one is lucky enough, waste material from a previous bird nesting. Resident males are thought to be looking for nest cavities now, so a cleaned out box would be inviting. Oh, it's also a great time of year to be getting rid of pesky wasp nests that may be hanging from the ceiling of the nest box.
