Jan. 30, 2011 (Eagle Watch, cont.) - Another highlight of sorts was
reported twice to me in the hall: apparently at least 3 would-be
photographers at the feeding site west of the hall had folding chairs
for their comfort in waiting long periods for some eagle activity --
weather was perfect for spending lots of time outdoors. Also I
heard from friends that at least six cars at the feeding/viewing site
had Quebec license plates, and I talked with a few Quebecois in the
community hall.
------------------------
At home we got a call from south Kentville about a large bird that
was found dead, presumably window-killed, this morning -- the finders
identified it as an immature red-tailed hawk?, BUT NO, when I picked
it up today from them, it was a ruffed grouse! It has now been
deposited in a freezer of Acadia Univ. Biology, along with a presumed
road-kill barred owl found dead in Kentville by Bob Cote on Jan. 28.

Also Sherman Bleakney returned to Wolfville on Jan. 27th after a
month in Toronto, and all of his feeder-birds from mid-December were
still present, including his bright pine warbler. Sherman's house is
at the top of Kent Ave., #84, and the feeders are all in his back
yard close to the house and his desk window -- his phone number is
542-3604.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.
