Index of Subjects Angela: Field guides often don't note that first-fall Pine Warblers can have dull yellow on feet, and the legs can be less than black - more brownish in tone. This causes confusion with first-fall Blackpoll, which can have duller, darker legs than indicated in field guides. Magnolia Warbler would be very distinctive. I suspect your bird is a Pine. Cheers, Ian Quoting Angela Joudrey* <aljoudrey@eastlink.ca>: Hi All. Since the Christmas break, I've noticed a "more yellow and larger than normal" goldfinch. I know it isn't a goldfinch, but it is the best way to describe it. Today I was home long enough to observe it traveling the trees in my backyard ( pine, wild rose, various hardwoods ) with a downy woodpecker and frequenting the suet. It isn't interested in the sun flower, mixed, or niger seed feeders. I have a few pics. I'm thinking either a magnolia ( unlikely ) or a pine warbler ( most likely ) but my Stokes book doesn't quite match what I see. White wing bars, eye circles, but the legs do not appear to be black. I'd be very interested in any help. E mail me and I'll e mail the 2 or 3 the pics I have. ( I sat under the feeder for what seemed like forever and was able to get a couple of close up pics. ) Thanks Angela in Windsor -- When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world.
