With the recent Dovekie related posts we were hopeful we would see one this winter. When we originally spotted it at a fair distance we were very happy with getting a few 'documenting' photos. Then this little bird swam straight towards us and posed obligingly and patiently for a number of portraits -- what a thrill! Paul Evans & Harriet Davies From: naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca [mailto:naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca] On Behalf Of Tuma Young Sent: December-27-10 5:20 PM To: NatureNS Subject: [NatureNS] dovekie at Dyke Road Kwe Msit Wen: I apologize for the unclear posting. I was trying a new feature in iBird which allows me to note where a particular bird was sighted but it only used Longitude and Latitude. However, we seen it at Dyke Road, on the Eastern Shore, near Grand Desert, off route 207 (past Seaforth). As for Paul's and Harriet's last name, that I do not know but I know they live in Lawrencetown and Paul said that he was going to post in NatureNS tonight so Paul make sure you also post your last name. I am sure that Paul has excellent pictures as it was full frame with stunning light. The bird was swimming towards us. I was so envious and kept telling myself never to leave home without my camera. I took some pictures with my iPhone but Nick and I will go out again tomorrow to see if we can get pictures with our cameras. We also saw a great blue heron at Conrad Beach (left hand side marsh going towards the beach), plus a couple Glaucous Gulls at Hartlen Point (they were the same size as the Herring Gulls). Dovekies are the cutest little birds, you just want to pick them up and cuddle them. A new lifer for us and hopefully tomorrow, it still will be there so it will be a "Photo Lifer" for us.
