This afternoon at about 2:00, I noticed a large group of blue jays, kinglets and
chickadees yelling their heads off in the woods behind my house. I followed the
scolding to a path through some thick spruces. As I walked along the path, I
heard large wingbeats and the scold calls doubled, but I couldn't see anything.
And just around the next corner, where the wingbeats seemed to have come from, a
freshly dead ruffed grouse lay on the path. I had a quick look around, but it
was obvious there was no chance of spotting the raptor in that cover. I left so
the hawk could return to its meal.

Based on its behaviour, I'm pretty sure it was a goshawk.
