All, I've started putting out carrion for the local scavengers again this year. I had a couple ravens (word hasn't got out yet I guess...30 Ravens in my orchard is not uncommon), one adult Bald Eagle, and yard bird #100, a Rough-legged Hawk. Now in reality, that species may not be #100 for two reasons...one, I didn't keep great records over the nine years I've been here, so I may have seen G Black-backed Gull (for example), but just neglected to record it. The second reason is that I'm going by memory...I changed computers and I couldn't find my Avisys disk, so I can't check if RL Hawk was ever seen in my yard before, but I doubt it since I don't see many of these birds around here anyway. Nonetheless, I'm pretty sure it's new, and therefore my 100th recorded species for my yard. It took me just over two years to go from 99 (Boreal Owl) to #100.
