I was in Ottawa over the weekend and visited the Canadian Museum of
Nature. The high point for me was an exhibit
<http://nature.ca/en/plan-your-visit/what-see-do/our-exhibitions/moths-large>
of photos of Canadian moths. The prints were enormous - around 36" wide
- and so detailed that you could see not only the individual scales on
the wings and body but also the fine details on each scale.

The photographer, Jim des Rivieres, uses an Epson scanner to photograph
the moths, rather than a standard camera. His web site
<http://www.moths.ca/index.html> has some full-resolution images and
lots of info about how he does it.

This exhibition will be on until January 9. If you're going to be in
Ottawa, it's really worth a visit.
