Tuma, I'd like to add another similar candidate to John's suggestion,  
namely the red-bellied woodpecker, which is a southern species that  
irrupts northward as we know at irregular intervals that depend on  
weather and oak crops and that woodpecker's reproduction.  This  
species has a ladder back of stripes similar to the American three-
