Hi Tuma

The first thought is Downy or Hairy woodpecker. If we think like people
seeing birds without the benefit of powerful binos, we would have noticed
obvious field marks. Both mentioned woodpeckers have a white stripe on
their backs. Just a thought.

Cheers, liz

Kwe Msit Wen
(Greetings All)

I am looking for another English common name for the "Striped Woodpecker."
The old Mi'kmaq reader that I am using to find Mi'kmaq names refers to a
"Striped Woodpecker." I have checked McAtee "Folks Names of Canadian
Birds"-no mention of a "Striped Woodpecker" in it. What are your thoughts
on which bird this may refer to.

Wela'lin (Thank You)
