When I pulled into the Mccormack's Beach parking lot around 4:30ish an
adult Black Skimmer was skimming the water. By the time I parked the car
and got out I just got a last glimpse of its tail end.
So I waited.
In the meantime a good number of gulls were in a feeding frenzy over the
spit of Mccormack's, snatching insects out of mid air. I guess there was a
nuptial flight of ants going on......
Amidst the Ring-billed and Black-headed Gulls was at least one imm.
Laughting Gull. It seems that the whole gang roosts on the fish factory
building.
The adult skimmer made a distant and brief fly-by, my guess is that they (1
adlut and 2 imm.) may roost on Lawler I. where the beach has a bit less
human and canine traffic.
