Hello,

This morning we visited Martinique Beach looking for shorebirds. Following
are some photos (you can also just browse the gallery at
http://paulevans.smugmug.com/Other/Birding/). If I've incorrectly identified
any of the species, please let me know.

We saw a large number of Semipalmated Sandpipers:

As well as Semipalmated Plovers:

http://paulevans.smugmug.com/gallery/12294505_NcGuG#956427161_hTDo5

We also spotted this lone Piping Plover:

http://paulevans.smugmug.com/gallery/12294505_NcGuG#956426798_FvMX3

You will notice that he has four bands on his legs (black, green, orange,
and white). I'd be interested in learning more about the banding programs if
anyone has more information?

Intermixed with the large flock of the Semipalmated Sandpipers and
Semipalmated Plovers were these two Ruddy Turnstones:

We also saw a lone Whimbrel:

http://paulevans.smugmug.com/gallery/12294505_NcGuG#956426622_EQf3J

A couple of other highlights from the weekend were a family of Osprey on a
nest in Bedford that I've been visiting for occasional photos:

Finally, while heading to the valley on Saturday, we stopped by the pond by
the St. Croix ballfields and watched this Pied-Billed Grebe take a fish to
its lone young (quality of photos aren't very good due to heavy crop and
shooting into the sun):

Cheers,

Paul Evans
