Driving back from Cape Breton today, I noticed 12-15 Common Nighthawks
flying over the road between New Glasgow and Truro (Mt. Thom area).

Also, I had meant to post this a while ago: in late June in the Aspy Fault
Wilderness area I found a patch of Yellow Lady Slipper (approx 100 flowers
in a small clearing in the woods). My understanding is that the plant is
uncommon in Nova Scotia. I can't say exactly where it was, as I wasn't on a
trail and didn't mark it on my GPS, but it was on the plateau north of Upper
Delaney's Brook.

On that same trip (hiking from Pollett's Cove to Meat Cove), I did a bunch
of atlassing/point counting. The most notable bird encountered was Vesper
Sparrow. There were a number of them spread throughout the trip in the
grassy clearings on the plateau. (If you're interested, read more about the
