As I'm sure many are aware, the Maitland Bad Cave used to be open to the
public with permission. The BNS used to have annual field trips there. We
had to climb up a steep embankment and lower ourselves through a narrow
opening into the cave, with flashlights. It was neat to see row upon row of
bats hanging from the walls and ceilings. Eventually it was closed - I seem
to recall that the surrounding area was a haven for undesirable characters,
and there was some issue about high natural levels of radiation. I think it
was on private property. Jim etc., any further details?
