A couple weeks ago I mentioned finding a big flock (~150) of AMERICAN GOLDFINCH in a field at Waldegrave (near Tatamagouche) eagerly feeding on the ripening seed heads of some kind of unknown grass. Thanks to Sean Blaney, I now have an ID. It is Anthoxanthum odoratum, Sweet Vernal Grass, a common exotic species that has the same scent as the native Sweet Grass (Hierochloe odorata, now known in the Flora of North America as Anthoxanthum nitens and A. hirta).
