JULY 7, 2010 - Robie Tufts Nature Centre in Wolfville at dusk: 13 chimney swifts counted as they dropped into the chimney for the night -- observations from 9:00 to 9:45 p.m. (Sunset time 9:02 p.m.) -- entry times for swifts 9:20 to 9:30 p.m. -- mostly clear sky, 25 C., no wind -- observers Hope Gillis, Tony Napoli, & 2 friends from Annapolis Royal. Cheryl Rutledge reports for her Upper Falmouth farmhouse: "There were 24 swifts last evening [July 7/10] between 9:00 and 9:30 p.m. [Sunset 9:02 p.m.]. Ken McKenna reports from New Glasgow's Temperance St. School for the evening of July 7/10: "Tonight [July7] ... I recorded my first swifts entering at 9:03 p.m.. By 9:20, 70 birds had gone into the chimney. The last 4 entered at 9:29 for a total of 99 chimney swifts. It was 28C, clear skies, light breeze and sunset 9:03."
