Hi folks,
This morning around 10, heard and saw a BALTIMORE ORIOLE in the canopy of
some mature trees (polar and maple) in a few different back yards, and in
the canopy overhanging the Thomas Brook, near the junction of hwy 221 and
hwy 360 (harbourville rd) in Welsford, NS. Further up the stream here is a
series of beautiful old growth hemlock ravines that have somehow hung on
over the years - an ecological gem.

Also found a PILEATED WOODPECKER in a CAVITY approx 8 m high in an old, dead
deciduous tree, in the north end of a thin, forested riparian buffer strip
surrounded by agricultural fields on all sides. This is at the base of the
north mountain near Welsford. She seemed to be quite attached to this
cavity, calling and scouting with her head stuck out for at least 20 min, so
it's *likely* she has a clutch or brood in there, but will check back.

all the best,
James
