Index of Subjects A Monarch flew through our property yesterday so today I checked on a large patch of Milkweed a few properties away. No Monarchs however. Some butterflies included Hobomok Skipper, Tawny-edged Skipper & Dun Skipper. The latter is quite early, not expected until late June. There were also Common Ringlets, Red Admiral & Tiger Swallowtails. While walking through a waste area (low growing weeds), I flushed a fem. Mallard. It was nesting in a patch (5' x 5') of grass. There were five eggs. I had came quite close to the nest on a first pass but the female stayed tight. On a second pass it was too much for her. Amazing that a predator (e.g. raccoon) had not found it. Angus
