This is an overwintered Red Admiral butterfly. Its red wing strips are now
yellow, and the bottom edges of its wings in tatters. I wasn't sure at first
what it was. There was nothing in my butterfly guide with yellow stripes
like that.
The photo was taken at Port Hilford, Guysborough County, NS.
