Index of Subjects We heard a peewee last evening near the house and another in Palmeters this morning Judy. Our first date last year was May 25. We have the opposite of your hummingbird situation....males have been with us since May 4th but no sign of a female. We too notice an abundance of ovenbirds singing between here and Palmeters. Congratulations on your Lady-Slipper......they are a bit like "That damned elusive Pimpernel " of Baroness Orczy.....they come and go. We used to have them pop up suddenly on our property in Port Joli, and just as suddenly disappear. I understand that they have very specific requirements including a symbiotic relationship to a fungus of some sort, and we soon came to realize that cutting down some of the trees that shade them resulted in the orchids demise.
