Hi Sherman & All, May 22, 2010
Just a guess, but estuaries along the Bay of Fundy are mostly small & transient and those along the Minas Basin mostly have muddy water; neither conducive to dive fishing.

On the other hand the Southern Upland of NS is riddled with lakes and sluggish rivers and estuaries along the Atlantic coast are relatively stable over the tidal range and much less muddy; better conditions for dive fishing and (as I recall) much beter conditions for seeing Osprey.

Yt, Dave Webster, Kentville.

I've lived in the Valley for over 40 years and have yet to see an Osprey in the area (Hantsport-Avonport-Gaspereau-Wolfville). I can't think of an instance when I've recorded seeing one anywhere in the upper Bay of Fundy-Minas Basin region. I've often wondered why not?? Do they not like fishing where there are extreme tides?

Re R-B Nuthatches: I have two at the feeder (Avonport) every day, pretty much regular visits since mid-winter. For a while they were overlapping with two W-B Nuthatches, however, it has been two months since I've seen or heard the latter.

And there are places not far from Windsor associated with hydroelectric projects where ospreys can be found nesting. In the Wolfville-Kentville area I only remember a single sighting of an osprey, at Evangeline Beach, decades ago, in my 35 years here. Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.

      Hi,

Ospreys are quite rare in the Valley, but there has been a pair nesting at Aylesford Lake for many years. Look across to the other side from the yacht club or the public beach area.

Also...are there any red-breasted nuthatches around? We haven't seen one this year yet.
