--Boundary_(ID_LQQePHakBQgcZ+4vgBOHBg) Content-type: text/plain; CHARSET=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT I too jotted down a few notes from that walk with Andy and with Bridget Stutchbury et al.: MAY 13, 2010 - I overnighted in Halifax with Stephanie & Allan Robertson in order to join Bridget Stutchberry and about 15 others for a 6 a.m. walk for birds and their songs in Point Pleasant Park. Andy Horn served ably as the local leader, and it was a beautiful Sunny morning with lots of bird song and a few species seen too. Most common were juncos, white-throated sparrows, song sparrows, myrtle or yellow-rumped warblers, black-capped chickadees, and robins -- a cardinal was heard, and a singing blue-headed vireo got Bridget talking about their nests and heavy nesting involvement by the males and tight fidelity of the pairs (vs. many other kinds of birds -- see her new book about this and other racy info' on sex lives of birds) -- Andy showed us a raven nest, and we also saw the delivery of food to the suddenly noisy nestlings/fledglings -- also flicker, crows, starlings, gulls, mallard, black ducks. Especially conspicuous flowers were pin cherry and red-berried elder bushes. Cheers from Jim in Wolfville Begin forwarded message: > From: Andrew Horn <aghorn@dal.ca> > Date: May 14, 2010 8:46:23 AM ADT > To: naturens@chebucto.ns.ca > Subject: [NatureNS] Yesterday's bird walk with Bridget Stutchbury, > Pt Pleasant Park > Reply-To: naturens@chebucto.ns.ca > > Hi all, > > A couple people asked that I relay how the Thursday AM bird walk in > PPP with Bridget Stutchbury went, so here goes. > > There was a good turnout (15 people??).
