Had= noticed some odd behaviour of a squirrel early this morning as I checked f= or the arrival of the over-wintering=A0Orange-crowned Warbler to the meal-w= orm tray (6:30ish-7am). On cue, he did arrive for his breakfast.=20 However, I noticed some activity in the trees of a squirrel running up a tr= ee carrying a baby squirrel and then dropping it as a crow swooped down tow= ards it. I did see the adult squirrel running down the trunk of the tree towards whe= re the baby squirrel fell,=A0so I thought, all would be well. About an hour later I got a call from my neighbour Robie, saying he had man= aged to rescue a baby squirrel from the cat next door.=20 Did get the baby squirrel up to the Dartmouth Vet Hospital on Tacoma Dr. Kn= ew that Hope Swinemer, who runs the animal sanctuary there in Seaforth is t= he Office Manager there.=20 Thoughts were that the baby squirrel's hind leg was probably broken but the= re were no other visible injuries. It will be cared for at the sanctuary un= til its injuries are healed. Really wonder if it was the fall that broke its leg, as=A0this cat is an ex= tremely efficient 'ratter',=A0may have been caught,=A0just at the nick of t= ime, before he had a chance to kill this baby squirrel. hmmm...just not sure... Have noticed an adult=A0squirrel, since this incident, chirping and frantic= ally running through-out the trees all day.
