Greetings, all.

Like Gayle MacLean with her Orange-crowned Warbler, I had expected more departures amongst the Baltimore Orioles in my back yard by now because of the mild weather. Two of the 9 departed in the warm weather in late March, and another two in early April. But two have also returned, so I'm still seeing 7 every day and still going through about 800 mealworms a week. Despite some mild days, there still don't seem to be many insects available, of the types that orioles feed on.

The 4 male orioles are moulting into their sub-adult plumage - getting black hoods, which look pretty scruffy now but allow me to tell the males apart. They're also singing quite a bit, wonderful to hear.

Cheers,
Susann Myers
