Hi,

Last night 3 of us visited one of Rick Whitman's atlassing squares -
Salmontail Lake, between Aylesford and New Ross. Basically it's all
woodland, with a few logging roads for access. As soon as we arrived, a
Barred Owl flew over and then posed in a roadside tree. Then just at dusk we
checked out a clear cut on a hilltop with a wide-ranging view and listening
area of the valley and opposite hillside - and got a pair of Great Horned
"talking" to each other, a Barred, and a Saw-whet, all at the same time.
After dark, another Barred flew across the road over us. Later we were able
to "squeak" out another calling Saw-whet. All the while, the astronomy
enthusiasts would have a great view of everything, on a crystal clear night.

And this morning, between Digby General Hospital and the Basin, a very
bright PALM WARBLER flew into a tree in a front yard. My 1st warbler of the
season, although Rick told me he had them singing in that square 2 days ago.

Richard
