Hi Derek
It is a good possibility these Cedar waxwings over-wintered. They seek out over-wintering berries, apples, etc. Spring arrivals usually appear in late May when the service-berry trees start to flower.
I note lots of roadside Coltsfoot along the TCH 104 in New Glasgow today and I heard a Killdeer in the old Westwray mine site behind my house last night. ( Apr.1).
cheers
Ken

Subject: [NatureNS] Spring Birds in Dartmouth

This Am in downtown Dartmouth I was surprised to see a small flock of Cedar Waxwings in a tree above our feeders . Sleek looking birds !

They would flit out from branches almost hover as if to capture something in air (like bugs or something but I did not see any small flies or knats of any kind ) and then go back and perch on branches .

Can any one tell how commonly occurring these birds are in the city ? Has the "early spring " brought them out ? I have never seen them in city before or do they show up as feeder feeders ?

Thanx for any info on this bird

  DB
