Index of Subjects This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_001A_01CAC86D.344B21D0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable I photographed two groups of painted turtles sunning themselves on beds = of dead cat-tail foliage beside the lake at Seven Bridges ( private = property ) yesterday ...four in one spot and two more about 10 meters = away. Also I inadvertantly photographed one March 14 . I took a picture of a = pair of geese but I was unaware of a painted turtle on the bank behind = them .....it showed up well on the computer screen when I downloaded the = image. Andy Dean 86 Baden Powell Drive Kentville, N.S. (902) 678-6243 ----- Original Message -----=20 From: Gayle MacLean=20 To: naturelist=20 Sent: Saturday, March 20, 2010 6:58 PM Subject: [NatureNS] Eastern Painted Turtle- Sullivan's Pond, Dartmouth Apologies if this appears twice. Sent earlier but did not = appear. Today, around 2:30-3PM,on this 1st day of Spring, as I, and my = Springer Spaniel, 'Dash' took a leisurely 2 hour walk on this glorious = day, I saw something odd looking, atop a rock, close to the island in = Sullivan's Pond, that is nearest to Hawthorn St. As I did not have my = binoculars, I didn't know if it was a piece of wood, or what. The water level at the pond has recently been lowered, making it = possible to go onto the island without getting my feet wet. So, leashed dog and I, made our way onto the island and ventured = toward the edge closest to 'that rock'. Astonishingly, it was a turtle, sunning itself! It is the first time that I have ever seen a turtle at = Sullivan's Pond! I do know that they have been seen there over the years = though. I had a good look at this turtle and when I got home, I = consulted the book, 'Amphibians and Reptiles of Nova Scotia' written by = John Gilpin, and it appears that this turtle is an Eastern Painted = Turtle. The fabulous weather, notwithstanding, this sighting 'made my = day'! Gayle MacLean Dartmouth=20 -------------------------------------------------------------------------= ----- Be smarter than spam.
