Hi Everyone;

The NS Bird Society Field trip run yesterday by Bernard Forsythe and myself was a great success. We had no rain whatsoever, and no wind. The day was cloudy but mild - perfect birding weather!

We saw more than 30 eagles during the course of the day, and about half as many Red-tailed Hawks, including great looks at the albino red-tail. We saw at least two Rough-legged Hawks, both light phased, and had exceptionally good looks at a male adult Peregrine Falcon. It was perched on the cross bar of a lampost on the grand Pre road and was comfortably sated after having eaten a meal. We assumed this because of the pellet it had just regurgitated, and because it seemed quite happy to let us stare at it with binocs and scopes. It was still there as we slowly drove past it.

Other birds of interest were a Red-throated Loon off Evangeline Beach, and the Mockingbird on Front Street in Wolfville. We had a Red-breasted Merganser at Kingsport, which Bernie said was unusual for the area. Except for some Horned Larks, and a White-breasted Nuthatch, land birds, especially finches, were few and far between.

Cheers;
Suzanne
