The Great Backyard Bird Count is almost here! It starts this Friday, Februa=
ry 12, and continues through Monday, February 15.=C2=A0It's easy and fun to=
participate. Just watch birds for at least 15 minutes at any locaton on on=
e or more days of the count and report the=C2=A0highest number of each spec=
ies you see=C2=A0together at one tme. For more information and birding tips=
be sure to visit the GBBC website=C2=A0and check out this year's great dra=
wing prizes for GBBC participants. You must do your bird counts over the fo=
ur days of the GBBC but you have until March 1 to enter your information th=
rough the GBBC website and to send us your entries for the GBBC photo conte=
st.
Snazzy New Maps
We've just added new and improved navigable Google maps to the GBBC website=
. Use the plus/minus buttons to zoom in closer and move around the map of N=
orth America (or any state and province map, including Hawaii, in the resul=
ts section). The maps will be updated every half-hour during the GBBC so yo=
u can see them change as the reports pour in.

Please take a moment after the GBBC to tell us about special experiences yo=
u may have had--whether it was sharing bird-watching quality time with a gr=
andchild, spotting a species you've never seen before, or anything else tha=
t made participation meaningful to you. We'll share a selection of your sto=
