Hi all:

=20

For the record=2C I drove a co-worker home as his car was broken down two n=
ights ago. After dropping him off just past the Desbrisay Museum in Bridge=
water a bird flew across in front of me and I was shocked to see that it wa=
s an American Woodcock. It was headed in the direction of Bridgewater=2C s=
o I do not know where the bird was coming from or headed to. =20

=20

There apparently has been an eastern towhee in Petite Riviere for quite som=
e time now. Dorothy Poole and I saw the bird today=2C which is a female. =
The owner of the property says that she saw it first on December 13. Anoth=
er person who lives there had spotted it at least two weeks before that dat=
e. For those that wish to try for this bird=2C we looked for a half hour w=
ithout success and went back later. At 13:00 we parked beside the house an=
d the bird was right there on it's favourite feeder. The house is the seco=
nd one up over the hill from the Petite Store=2C if headed in the direction=
of Broad Cove. It is a house on the right hand side of the road. There a=
re a number of yew trees in front of the house=2C and the last yew has a sa=
ucer type hanging feeder right by the window. The towhee prefers this feed=
er and the yew there. There is a hedge between this house and the next and=
the towhee also frequents that hedgerow. This bird can be observed from t=
he road if present=2C so there is no need to go onto the property. I didn'=
t think to get a house number.

=20

At First South today there were at least 480 greater scaup and at least 24 =
lesser scaup. =20

=20

Alongside Highliner Foods today at Garden Lots on the backside of Lunenburg=
at the trail that runs along the shoreline from Lunenburg to there. On th=
e right side of the trail were ten yellow-rumped warblers.

=20

In our travels today Dorothy Poole and I had three belted kingfishers. The=
re was one at Petite Riviere by the bridge=2C one at Volglers Cove and one =
at Back Harbour in Lunenburg.

=20

At First South six Bonaparte gulls were present today.

=20

A comment - Between Broad Cove and Volglers Cove today in Lunenburg County=
=2C there were 14 song sparrows. Dorothy Poole and I noted a large increas=
e in the numbers of this sparrow at most locations that we traveled to toda=
y. =20

=20

At Crescent Beach 19 dunlin and the black-bellied plover were still present=
. The plover was near the Bush Island Bridge today. =20

=20

Another comment of interest is that the traditional American crow roost on =
Cross Island does not appear to be present this year for the first time. F=
rom reports and observations it looks like that roost for roughly 10 000 Am=
erican crows has now moved inland somewhere. I've had reports from around =
Bridgewater of a large increase of crows moving in the morning and evening=
=2C so suspect the roost has changed to somewhere there. There had been a =
roost behind Michelin for roughly 1 000 crows=2C but I've not had chance to=
see if that is still there this winter or to see if those numbers have inc=
reased.
