However, when I went outside with my camera to get a picture, chickadee alarm calls alerted me to yet another raptor - an adult goshawk zooming past overhead. By some miracle I managed to not only get it in my camera sights but also in focus, though it was too far away for a good photo. My first birds of the new year were the chickadees and goldfinches which have lately descended on my feeders (and are currently very busy draining the sunflower and niger seeds).
