By not looking in the sky for Crows, in the bushes at Gillespie House for Chickadees, or over the water for Gulls, my first birds of 2010 were a half dozen Buffleheads in Parrsboro Harbour this morning, along with a dozen Black ducks and a couple of Mallards. I had scouted the little ducks out yesterday, and saw only six (best viewed from behind the Ship's Company Theatre). This is a dependable spot for Buffleheads but there are usually 10-12 there. On the way down shore (west of Parrsboro), there was a female Merlin, and in Diligent River there was a Sharpie. Happy 2010 to all! Joan
