Index of Subjects We usually have a big flock in the summer and fall, which, by spring, is considerably smaller. This year seems the same, so far. At present, the fight is on for seeds, between the house sparrows, the starlings, and the pigeons. The pigeons grab onto the feeder and flutter their wings, trying to stay attached to the small perches, thus causing a spill which they then gobble up happily. -----Original Message----- From: naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca [mailto:naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca]On Behalf Of David W. Johnston Sent: Thursday, December 03, 2009 4:39 PM To: naturens@chebucto.ns.ca Subject: [NatureNS] House Sparrows I have noted comments over the past few years about declining numbers of House Sparrows. We have had 10-12 at our feeders over the past 10 - 12 winters. This year we currently have about 40. Anyone else seeing an increase or is this just a localized occurrence?
