Possibly a porcupine....they can be very noisy especially when in an =
amorous mood.

Subject: [NatureNS] Sounds in the night!

Sometime during the nite I was awakened by an animal in the woods =
close to our house. For about 10 minutes it continued to make rather =
high-pitched scream that would last 20 to 30 seconds...there was no =
change in pitch at the beginning or end. My dogs, who were sleeping =
with me, got extremely upset at this noise, so I couldn't always hear it =
above the barking. Just curious, anyone have any suggestions as to what =
the creature would be that would make this type of noise? We have the =
Folly River just below our house, and lots of mixed woodland. It seems =
to me we had an animal like this at the cottage in Economy a couple of =
years ago, and the neighbors thought it was either a Martin or a Fisher. =
I was wondering about a Badger? Just curious, as my dogs run around =
loose on my property and I wouldn't want to put them in any danger. =
I've actually been saying lately that there is something around the =
house that is upsetting the dogs...they go out and bark once as if to =
announce themselves, then are watchful, and stand quietly sniffing the =
air...there is definitely something different living handy our house!
