Mon Sept 21/09 - Wolfville Have just returned from walking along the dyke from Wolfville harbour to the Wolfville Sewage Ponds on this beautiful sunny afternoon at high tide. Many joggers and cyclists were also enjoying this last day of summer. The tide was very high at 15.0 m - Sept 19th-21st saw the highest tides for the month. After only finding ONE Gtr. Yellowlegs in the harbour waiting for the tide to change (Sat, Sept 19, I had found 20), I decided to explore the usual rocky seaward side of the dyke towards the sewage ponds where some of the larger shorebirds prefer to roost, as I could hear Blk-bellied Plovers calling. I was also hoping to find a possible Godwit which Jim Wolford thought might have been with the harbour flock he saw on Saturday, but no such luck. I only found a handful of shorebirds as there were very few exposed rocks on which to stand but the Dunlins were a welcome sighting. 20 Black-bellied Plovers 5 DUNLIN (one in partial breeding plumage) 1 Gtr Yellowlegs 2 Spotted Sandpipers 3 Semip. Sandpipers 1 Least Sandpiper In the sewage ponds, besides all the gulls (many Ring-bills among them) and some Black Ducks, there 3 Grn-w. Teal but more interesting were single male, and female, Wood Ducks. Cheers, Judy >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Judy Tufts Wolfville <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
