Ok so our front yard swallows are extremely busy feeding the hatchlings
which by my calculations should be air borne in the next week. Thing is
there are three "parent" birds feeding the young, at least. The other day we
had swallows everywhere, as if they were gathering to leave as they do when
the young take off. There was a third bird that was insistent on trying to
enter the house and all kind of set toos. Now it appears all are welcome to
help feed. I know for sure there are three, possibly a fourth, bringing in
food.
Two appear to go right into the house and the other(s) takes catchings to
the portal and it seems to be received by one of the true parents and then
is dispersed. It is getting hectic out there. Again this pm there are a
number (maybe 7 or 8) of swallows, plus barn swallows (hopefully) swooping
in and out of the drifting fog. I still hear a fair bit of chirping from our
house as soon as anyone flies near. One year I was fortunate enough to
watch as the young ones took their first steps out and into the air and I
hope I will see it again this year.
In on White Point Rd by the Whynot's gas station, and just past the salt
sheds heading this way there were 5 swallows on the wires so hope it means
they have been successful in getting their babies airborne.
