Hi All, A quick posting before people get out birding for the weekend. Last weekend myself, Fulton and Mike did a little birding in Cumberland County.

Highlights included 6 Eastern Phoebe including the two typically present at Wentworth Park.

The Wentworth Valley was crawling with Mourning Warblers, both along the main drag as well as up Lafarge Lane where we also had the expected Lincoln’s Sparrows. The three Barred Owls Dad, Fulton and I had there a couple of weeks ago were not evident. Not too surprising as clear cutting operations were in full swing during our current visit.

Our best species of the day was Least Bittern. We heard 2 from the back corner of the Amherst Point Bird Sanctuary and detected another at East Amherst.

This is also a great year for Black Terns in the Amherst area, with lots of terns being present both as East Amherst & APBS. On the downside we could not find any American Coots and Common Moorhens at either location.

The back corner of APBS also provided us with singing Marsh Wrens, Sora and Virginia Rails. From Boomer Loop a Caspian Tern was feeding over the distant ponds and at the Atlantic Super Store in East Amherst we had a singing Indigo Bunting. - All the Best in Birding, Clarence Stevens
