JUNE 23, 2009 - Today by chance I met Heather Brown, who on June
19/09 had encountered a large WOOD TURTLE on Wolfville Ridge Road,
near the western end where another road curves downward toward Horton
High School. I think she said it was just east of the clearing with
the nice view of Port Williams etc. When she approached the turtle
on foot, it quickly left the road and walked into the woods, she
said. Unfortunately she did not have a camera with her.

She said she reported it by e-mail to the N.S. Dept. of Nat.
Resources via contact info' on the attractive poster, "Have you seen
this turtle?", which she saw somewhere; and I told her she had done
just the right thing. Heather's phone number is 542-5514 and her e-
mail address is brownheather2002@yahoo.ca ?

Then I told her a bit about the natural distribution of wood turtles
in the province, and that not very long ago one was found by Roy
Bishop at Grand Pre and then was taken to Guysborough County and
relocated into a natural population along the St. Mary's River, I
believe?

I think the closest natural population to King's County would be
along the Annapolis River near Kingston/Middleton? John Belbin knows
some of that area well and where the turtles can be encountered.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville
