James, thanks for all of this.  I think you must use the word  
"fledge" differently from me -- for the cormorants, did you mean to  
say they had all hatched their young?  It's much too early for the  
first flights of the youngsters to have happened.  Concerning the  
great black-backed gulls showing no chicks yet, a bunch of us were at  
the tip of Cape Split on May 30, and the GBBGs had young downy chicks  
then and some may have still been hatching?  We couldn't actually  
check the nests except across the chasm with binoculars.  Cheers from
