Claire and I visited her warbler rich MBB atlas square in Roxbury,
Annapolis County on Saturday, then went to the NSBS out of town meeting
in Digby County. Thanks Patrick, Suzanne, Becky and all who put this
meeting together!
Claire and I went to Brier Island on Sunday to practice doing point
counts. We arrived there too late in the morning for point count
records, but had some great birding. The highlight was a pair of
*Eastern Bluebirds *on Wellington Road, Westport, just before the
airstrip. Near the entry to Flour Cove Road on Long Island we saw a
female N. Oriole, and when I checked over the hill saw a pair of what I
believed to be *N.Orioles* courting, but the distance was too great to
confirm. We atlassed on Long Island, and got a good number of species in
19GK11.
An adult and an immature *N. Gannet *were in the channel off Digby neck
both am and pm..
We were in the right spot for the Sedge Wren, found by Olivier on
Saturday. I checked the wren calls again when I got home today, and I
believe the calls we heard was the SEWR, but I am not counting it (as it
was not a confident ID on my part).
*Snipe* in the marsh were calling there, and lots of other birds were
singing..
The whale watch trip went out from Westport on Sunday, but no whales
were sighted.
We saw our first Tiger Swallowtail of the season on Brier, and a number
of skippers and azures.
Cheers, Joan
