Index of Subjects
Index of Subjects This morning while on my usual stroll along the RR bed (Coldbrook towards Kentville): Lots of Catbirds, perhaps 10. They are often found with Yellow Warblers here although the latter has a broader range of habitats. Lots of other species singing despite being mid-morning. Veerys appear to be saving their voices...all I heard were calling. Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Pewee, B/T/G Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warblers were some of the more persistent singers. Found my first Bluet (damselfly), a Familiar or Hagen's. The most common odonate by far was Chalk-fronted, all females or imm. males. Spring Azure still in high numbers. Also my first Tiger Swallowtail of the year, Clouded Sulphurs, Cabbage Butterflies, (The first flight of the Mustard White may be over..I didn't see any), Dreamy Duskywing. There were five Painted Turtles basking on a stump in the middle of a pond. One was extremely large..it would be interesting to measure it. The largest size is supposed to be 25 cm (10 in). This species is numerous here but all about the same size until this one!! Angus
