We've had male R.T.Hummingbirds competing for the feeders before, but yesterday we had a war! Two males were dive-bombing each other, making their buzzing sound as usual but they got themselves so worked up that they clinched together as they flew, and stayed that way for several minutes, moving together high up the side of the house and around the corner from the deck where I was standing, then back again, buzzing like crazy. I thought they were killing each other - they seemed really angry - so I clapped my hands to try to divert their attention. They totally ignored me though I was so close I could have grabbed them. It's pretty strange seeing a buzzing hummingbird ball! Eventually they un-clinched, and did some more dive-bombing. Somehow one won at least on a temporary basis, as one occupied the feeder that day. But this morning they were back at dive-bombing each other again. We have 3 hummingbird feeders, so I don't know why they can't share! Lois Codling L. Sackville
