Today so far we have had a Rose-Breasted GrosBeak, an Indigo Bunting, male,
just coming into his breeding plumage (I think) , a black and white warbler,
and a White-Crowned Sparrow at my grapevine feeders all in matter of a few
hours. (this is beside my usuals) Yesterday when I picked Steve up from work
in Milton, the DNR office trees were loaded with warblers, finches and I saw
Blackburnians, Black and whites, and a few others I am hoping to identify
shortly! There were a number of Evening Grosbeaks hanging about in the big
pine trees off that lane leading back to the river. There was as something
else, I don't have strong enough Binoc.s yet, but it very well might have
been a cat bird.
Our swallows are still all stressed. There is a male who has taken over the
entire property (3 houses) and won't allow the other couples to use the
houses without interference. It is something I haven't seen before!
We have several male hummingbirds working the property now. The females are
working their way up and down the trees looking for cob webs, bugs etc
presumably. I still can't find a nesting site! There is a cat (not ours)
hunting my yard and so I am not encouraging birds by putting out nesting
materials for anyone this year. Some renesters aren't too pleased with that.
I see someone picking at my cloth that stays on the clothes line as a
determent to birds lining up along it.
